From the last post of Purity Pledge, I received some great feedback and some questions. The question that people mostly asked was, "At what age is it appropriate to talk about the "birds and the bees?" Or at what age is it appropriate to have your kids make the pledge?
I am no DR., I am not a shrink, each parent needs to decide that themselves. Here are a few stats though:
--The average age of first sexual experience in the US is 16.5 years. (This is an average so there are younger and older)
--By the age of 19, 70% of teens have had sexual intercourse. (-- not the best odds)
--Most kids hear or learn about sex as early as the 1st grade.
For some reason, kids feel more comfortable talking at school or with their friends about this subject. I want to make the HOME the place for them to get the right information. Here are a few things I have done, and by no means am I perfect but I see the odds and the world we live in so I will give it my best.
1. Give basic age appropriate information.
2. Refer to private parts as their proper names and not as nicknames.
3. Teach that each of them own their private parts and not to let others touch them in inappropriate ways thus helping with sexual predators.
4. Allow and encourage them to ask questions.
5. Make the HOME the place to ask questions.
This is only the beginning. Im trying to weave my way around this crazy job of raising kids!

Choose to be Pure
"Justin Bieber is soooo hot." "I have a crush on so and so." Yep, words from my tweenyboppers! I think God blessed me with 3 straight girls in a row or maybe He wanted me to understand the fear of a father; letting their precious daughters go on dates with immature, hormone crazed, 16 year old boys.--(Yea I am scared out of my mind). Either way, I love them and fully accept the awesome responsibility to protect them and teach them about being pure.
So one evening after discussing the "Birds and the Bees" I developed the Purity Pledge with my precious daughters.(Each one is taught and understands it on their own level), Its rather simple but profound. In making this contract with them, I added a little enticement---If my girls abstain from kissing a boy until they are 16 years old then I will fly them to anywhere in the lower 48 states. If they wait until they are 18 to kiss a boy then they can fly to Hawaii!
I have included the contract below that they filled out. I think it would be fun to see kids out there traveling with their parents because of making a pledge and sticking to it.
So find a time to chat with your kids about the problems and dangers that they will face as they grow up.Present the pledge, have them sign it and parents sign as well. Check back weekly for ideas, discussions and videos for engaging kids in discussion about staying pure! Some kids/youth will be at different stages, some wont need incentives, but I think it is a great idea, if they accomplish it, I get to spend more time with them as Daddy-daughter bonding.---Do the Pledge, Follow the blog, Send this idea to a friend. Lets start a Pure Revolution.

I, ___Makayla______promise to obey God’s command to be sexually pure. This means I will not have any sexual relations before marriage and will be completely faithful to my spouse after marriage. I will be pure in thought, action, and word.
I, _____Ryan, Your Father____promise to protect you and help you understand the importance of remaining sexually pure before and after marriage. I promise to keep myself pure in thought, action, and word.

-as part of the pledge,if I abstain from kissing a boy until 16, I can choose anywhere in the lower 48 states to visit. If I wait until 18 to kiss a boy then I get to go to Hawaii.
